The Student CYPRES 2 is an AAD (Automatic Activation Device) specifically designed to address the distinct safety requirements of beginner skydivers. It features unique activation parameters: if the descent rate matches typical free-fall speed, activation occurs at approx. 750 ft AGL, while slower descent rates (e.g., partially opened canopy descent above approx. 29 mph) trigger activation at approx. 1,000 ft AGL.
Please note: unlike Expert or Tandem models, this unit should be turned off if a jump is aborted and the aircraft’s descent rate remains high enough to trigger the device.

The Student CYPRES has unique activation parameters that better accommodate the safety needs of a student during the initial learning progression.
If the descent rate is approximately the same rate as freefall, the unit will activate at approximately 750 ft (default setting, same as the Expert), but if the descent rate is lower than freefall speed and still above 29mph (e.g. with partially opened canopy), the unit will activate at approximately 1000 ft (300m) AGL (default setting).
Unlike the Expert and Tandem models, it is recommended that the Student unit be turned off in the event that the jump is aborted as the vertical descent rate of the aircraft is still fast enough to activate the unit.

*These temperature limits do not mean the outside (ambient) temperatures but rather temperatures inside the processing unit. Therefore, these limits won‘t have any meaning until the processing unit itself has reached the temperatures in question. In actual fact, these limits will rarely be reached due to the location of the CYPRES in the reserve container, and the insulating properties of the processing unit pouch and parachute canopies.
